ELECTRIC VEHICLES : David Cameron gives LEAF the green light

Granted – LEAF incentive confirmed

David Cameron’s coalition government has confirmed that a £5,000 incentive off the purchase price of a Nissan LEAF will be available from January 2011.

The news ends a brief period of uncertainty after the change of governments and it means the zero-emissions LEAF*, which will be available to reserve from 1 September, will cost £23,990 including the incentive and VAT at the 2011 rate of 20%.

The 25% off incentive (up to a maximum £5,000) for any motorist who snaps up a new generation ultra-low emission vehicle comes into play in January next year, just two months before the LEAF goes on sale in the UK in March.

Initially, the government has allocated £43 million to the incentive scheme, which equates to 8,600 discounted vehicles between January next year and March 2012.

Here at Nissan GB we welcome the confirmation of the incentive. It will make electric vehicle ownership even more appealing to UK motorists and make cars like the LEAF a practical alternative to conventional petrol and diesel-powered cars.
