ELECTRIC VEHICLES : Pioneering an electric future

The world is changing. Society is changing. The things that used to be important to us don’t seem quite so important anymore. What is important is the future, and the kind of world we are going to leave for our children and their children after them.
Which is why, at Nissan, we’ve made a commitment to producing a range of sustainable – and affordable – electric vehicles. From early 2011, people in Europe will be able to drive away in the all-electric, all-new LEAF – the world’s first mass-produced family saloon that’s emissions free*.
But our commitment to electric vehicles doesn’t end there.
At the Hanover Motor Show in September, Nissan announced that the second in its second all-electric range would be a Light Commercial Vehicle. Using much of the technology developed for the innovative LEAF, this battery-powered light van promises to revolutionise the world of commercial transport across the globe; with no tail-pipe emissions whatsoever, it will enable businesses to access areas conventional fuel vans simply have no access to.
And for the new breed of entrepreneur who demands a new breed of transport, we have created the electric Townpod concept vehicle. For business or pleasure, travel or leisure, Townpod provides a simple platform, which each user can individually tune to their own needs, adapting the pod’s interior as they see fit. Best of all, Townpod uses the same zero-emission technology as the LEAF, with charging points found in the nose behind an automatically retracting cover.
All of which confirms Nissan’s status as a global leader in sustainable, affordable transport.
